For the past ten years The Center for Adoption Policy has sponsored an annual conference on Adoption Law and Policy, together with New York Law School. Held at New York Law School, The Adoption Policy Conference has brought together scholars, policymakers, social workers and adoption service personnel, as well as adoptees and adoptive families. The Adoption Policy Conference has been co-sponsored by organizations such as the Child Advocacy Program of Harvard Law School, Diplomatic History and the Even B. Donaldson Adoption Institute. The Tenth Annual Adoption Policy Conference was held on March 1, 2013 on the topic: Ten Years Together: A Retrospective Look and Prospective View at Adoption Policy and Family Creation.

The Seventh Annual Adoption Policy Conference was held on March 5, 2010. The conference focused on "Permanency for Children: national and international policies that promote the preservation and reunification of families and the creation of permanent families for unparented children." The Second Adoption Policy Conference, held on May 20, 2005, was organized around issues arising out of "Gay and Lesbian Adoption: Past, Present, and Future." A number of presenters at that conference contributed articles to the volume, Adoption by Lesbians and Gay Men: A New Dimension in Family Diversity (eds. David M. Brodzinsky and Adam Pertman (2011).
The Inaugural Annual Adoption Policy Conference, held on May 21, 2004, examined "International Adoption: The European Union and Transnational Law."
